The yearly planner
17.1Open it
For long-term planning, use the yearly planner. On Home, click Yearly planner. It opens on the Scheduler.
Across the top:
- On the left, the tabs: Beers, Scheduler and Flavor Map.
- On the right: All / Full / Test, a filter: All shows every beer, Full only full batches, Test only the beers you ticked as a test batch, New Beer, and a menu.
17.2Beers
The yearly planner is where you keep your notes about the beers you make and the beers you want to make. The Beers tab lists them.
At the top, choose how to organize them:
- By brand line: the brand line the beer's recipe has (see Branding).
- By category: a grouping used only here in the yearly planner, for your own organization. Keep it general. Example: Thick hazies, Lagers, Summer seasonals.
- By series: the series the beer's recipe is in.
- By tags: a beer shows under each of its tags, so a beer tagged both fruit and sour appears in both.
- Ideas / Recipes: see only your ideas (beers with no recipe linked yet), or only the beers that have a recipe.
17.3Add a new beer
On the Beers tab or the Scheduler, click New Beer.
- Type the beer name.
- Pick its category, brand line and series, side by side. You don't have to. Categories and brand lines are kept in Hakkotome's Settings (see Brand lines, categories and holidays).
- Pick the style if you know it. You don't have to yet. Own / Collab / OEM: who the beer is for, and for a collab or OEM, who it's with. It's shared with the recipe (see The top row of a recipe): set it on either and the other follows.
- Add tags if you want: type one and press Enter. Tags are shared with the beer's recipe, and in the Recipe Explorer you can sort your recipes by tag.
- Plot on flavor map: tick it, then use the two sliders: not bitter to bitter, and light body to full body.
- Teiban (regular) (定番, a core beer): tick it and the beer goes in the Teiban — regulars box at the top of the Scheduler.
- Test batch: tick it and the beer gets a TEST tag. The All / Full / Test filter on the Scheduler and the Flavor Map uses it.
- Every year or One-off: every year repeats it on your schedule year after year; one-off puts it on this year only.
- Click the months it goes in.
- Holidays: click a holiday to connect the beer to it, to remind you why you're making it. Add holidays in Settings → Yearly planner → Holidays. Example: connect a sakura beer to Hanami.
- + Add Award: if the beer has won awards, add each one (name, year and gold, silver, bronze or other). Then you can see on your schedule when your award winners are coming out.
- Add notes.
Example: you see an interesting new ingredient, say yuzu peel. Make a new beer called Yuzu, choose Idea, and write your thoughts in the notes. Nothing else is needed.
A beer that already has a recipe
There are two ways:
- From this page: click New Beer. At the top of the form, the drop-down says New beer. Open it and pick the recipe instead. The beer is linked to its recipe, with the name, brand line, style and series filled in. Fill in the rest if you want: category, flavor map, 定番 (teiban, a core beer), test batch, tags, notes.
- From the recipe: open the recipe and use Yearly (see Put it on the schedule).
Example: you want to bring back last year's Yuzu Pale in June. Click New Beer, pick Yuzu Pale in the drop-down at the top, and put it in June.
17.4Scheduler
The Scheduler shows your beers month by month for one year. Choose the year at the top.
Organize it by category, brand line, style or series. Rows with no beers are hidden. Press Show empty rows to see them, for example to see which categories still need a beer.
The colors:
- Blue: Teiban (定番), your core beers. They also have their own box at the top, Teiban — regulars.
- Gold: award winners.
- Light green: no recipe linked yet.
- Green: a recipe is linked.
- A black box with a lock: that month is on the production schedule (its recipe has a brew starting that month). It's locked in, so you can't change it from here. Only beers linked to a recipe can get it.
At the bottom is a small chart, beers / month, of how many beers you have planned each month.
Suggestions: under each month there's a box with a Suggest button. Anyone signed in with their own name can use it, administrators too: suggest a beer for that month, or leave any note about the plan. Give it a title and write the details under it. Your name goes on it, so everyone can see who it's from.
In the month you see each suggestion's title, who wrote it and the date. Click one to open it and read everything. An administrator ticks a suggestion when it's been handled. Clicking a beer shows Suggestions for this beer the same way.
Example: under July, suggest "A yuzu lager for the summer festival", and in the details say which yuzu farm to ask.
Click a beer
Clicking a beer opens it again, to edit. From there:
- Link to a recipe… if it isn't linked yet, or Make recipe: that opens a new recipe with this beer's details already filled in.
- Open recipe if it's linked, to see the recipe.
- Add to production schedule: opens the production schedule so you can give it a real brew day.
Brand line, style, series and tags are shared with the linked recipe: change them here and the recipe changes too, and the other way round. Category stays on the yearly planner only.
17.5Flavor Map
When you add a beer and plot it on the flavor map (see Add a new beer), it shows here: bitter to not bitter, and light body to full body. Use it to see how your beers spread out, month by month or across the whole year.
Filter it with the choices at the top:
- All / Full / Test: every beer, only full batches, or only test batches.
- All / Own / Collab / OEM: see only your OEM beers, for example. The Beers tab and the Scheduler have this filter too. A beer nobody has answered the question on shows only under All.
- All plotted / In planner: every beer you've plotted, or only beers that are in a month on the planner. Example: you plotted an idea but haven't given it a month yet. It shows under All plotted, not under In planner.
- All months, or pick one month.
There's also a search box: type a beer's name and the map shows only that beer.
17.6Brand lines, categories and holidays
The yearly planner's lists are kept in Hakkotome's Settings, with everything else:
- Settings → Lines → Brand lines: the one list of brand lines for all of Hakkotome. The recipe's Brand line box and the yearly planner both use it, and a brand line you type on a recipe is added here. Give each a name and notes about what it is. Example: a brand line called Classics, with the note "our year-round beers, the ones on the regular label design."
- Settings → Lines → Series: your series, the same list the recipe's Branding uses. Example: the 30 Series, with the note "30% Citra, 30% Mosaic, the rest a new hop."
- Settings → Yearly planner → Categories: the categories you group beers by (see Beers). Only the yearly planner uses them.
- Settings → Yearly planner → Holidays: holidays and their dates, to connect beers to.
