On a tablet or phone

27.1Tablet

On a tablet (an iPad or any other), Hakkotome is the same as on the desktop. Everything in this manual works the same way.

Held upright, the recipe screen stacks into four full-width blocks instead of squeezing its columns side by side: the recipe itself first, then what's in the left column, then the style, totals and process panels, then the notes. Turn the tablet sideways and it's the desktop layout again.

27.2Phone

The phone version is pared down: some things don't fit, so it shows the main information. You can still do the everyday work on it, including making a recipe.

  • Home has six buttons: Recipes, Calculations, Fermenters, Opening list, Closing list and My tasks.
  • Opening and closing lists: quick to do from the phone.
  • Recipes: organized the same way as on the desktop. Tap a recipe to look at it, and More stats for more detail. To start a new recipe, press + New recipe at the top of the list.
  • Calculations: the same calculators as the desktop (see Calculations). On a beer's Brew Day tab, the Calculations button at the top opens just the brew-day ones, with that beer's numbers filled in.
  • Brew day, fermentation, packaging, tasting: open a recipe and use the tabs Brew Day, Ferm, Packaging and Tasting to log readings as you go, and your tasting notes. To get back to the recipe itself, tap its name at the top of the screen. On Tasting, the five tasting wheels are along the top under Wheels: tap the ones this beer is scored on. It is the same choice as on the desktop (see Tasting panel) and there is only one of it, so picking a wheel here picks it everywhere.
  • Editing a recipe:
  • Beer: the name, the style and the batch size. Changing the batch size here does not scale the recipe; it only changes the number.
  • Ingredients: change the ingredients.
  • Scale: scales the whole recipe to a new batch size. Be careful with this one.
  • Water: self-explanatory when you look at it.
  • In Ingredients, press Done when you've finished.
  • Harvested yeast: when you add or edit a liquid yeast, choose Harvested, pick the jar, and put the cell count: Average slurry, or Count it for the counter (the same as on the desktop, see 4.8). On a beer's Ferm tab, under Harvested yeast: Log harvest harvests into jars (see 7.4), and Take from a jar takes this beer's pitch out of a jar, with Empty the jar ticked (see 6.6). The chart of each yeast is on the desktop (14.4).
  • Manual: More → Manual, the whole manual with a search bar (see 0.2).
  • Play copies: you can make a play copy on your phone to try things out. Play copies on the phone and on the desktop are separate: they don't sync.
  • Brews: your beers in progress.
  • My tasks: the phone version of My tasks. Tasks and Calendar are separate tabs at the top. The three circles, Hakkotome, Sales hub and Personal, let you choose where the tasks come from; tap one again to see them all. Tap the tick circle beside a task to mark it done; if you tapped it by mistake, press Undo on the message that pops up.
  • More: everything else. Everyone can look at the Whiteboard here; only managers can assign jobs on it. Receive a delivery is here too (see Receive a delivery on your phone).

To get back to the More list from one of its screens, tap More again.

The More screens

  • Receive a delivery: the orders on the way, grouped by the day they're due. Tap a day, then an ingredient; it shows the amount that should arrive, the same as on the desktop. Check it, type the lot number if there is one, and press ✓ Received. It's done.
  • Yearly planner: view only. Tap a month to see what's on it. Changing the yearly plan is desktop only.
  • Beer ideas: the beers on the yearly planner with no recipe yet. Tap Start a recipe to make one, Link to a recipe to connect one you already have, or just add a few notes (and press Save notes) when an idea comes to you while you're walking around.
  • Production planner: view only, because the whole calendar is too much for a phone and it's safer that way. Tap a beer to open its recipe.
  • Inventory: tap Take stock to see what you have in stock, and type your real count next to each. Once you've counted something, press Review, check the Count date, and press Sync corrections to ledger: any difference goes into your tax inventory as an inventory correction, the same as on the desktop (see Taking inventory).
  • Connection: a quick test that the phone is connected to your brewery. Pull data fetches everything from the brewery again, for example after you reinstall. It also shows if anything is still waiting to be sent.

Desktop only: recipe declarations, the tax pages, order planning and the other complicated work are done on the desktop or a tablet.

Example: on brew day, open the beer on your phone, go to Brew day, and type the mash readings as you take them. Next morning, the gravity goes in on Ferm.
